Throughout the last two decades, many rumours have risen, fallen, and became obscure, about Final Fantasy X.
Many of said rumours will be mentioned, and explained, here, as they still pop up in other guides and discussions to this day.
The first, and probably most popular rumour, is the many, many "special spots" throughout the game that, allegedly, allow enemies to spawn more frequently than other areas of the map. It's true many former Final Fantasy games have been programmed in this way, either intentionally, or unintentionally (i.e. the "Peninsulas of Power"). X, however, is not. In X, encounters are determined by entire regions and RNG, rather than specific spots on the map. The most popular of these alleged sweet spots is probably the "Green Room" in the Cavern of Stolen Fayth, which is said to have higher spawns of Tonberries. But it doesn't. This, and others like it, are just rumours from people with good luck, and nothing more. The only area like this in the entire game is Djose Highroad, where the shade and sunlight provably spawn different enemy types.
Another popular old rumour is that praying at both the sacred totem and the statue of Ohalland in Besaid can change all sorts of things, such as early enemy drops, dialogue in battles, Tidus and Wakka's chances of attacking first, and most prominently, making the scripted Blitzball match against the Luca Goers easier. All of these things are false. Even claims that it alters the hidden "Dating Mechanic" in the game, where praying will make Yuna get points, and not praying will make Lulu get points, are false, as the only event in Besaid that triggers dating values is answering Wakka's question about Yuna being cute.
At the end of the day, these two praying scenes are ways to share lore for the game, nothing more.
